The event which was opened by the Ambassador of France, M. Denys Gauer, the Ambassador of Japan, M. Sadanobu Kusaoke, and the representative of the Minister of Information and Culture, M. Hussaini Dayar, was attended by more than 750 people most of whom were Nigerians.
Staged in partnership with the Nigerian production company Nicademia, this edition gave Nigerian animated industry a more prominent position.
Six Nigerian short-movies were screened to present the diversity of this sector. In particular, for the first time in Abuja, "Crush" by Stephen Shima Iosun was screened.
This Nigerian movie was selected in international and national festivals and was given the award for best-animated film of the SVAFF - Silicon Valley African Film Festival.
This third edition of the festival was a confirmation of Nigerian creativity and the turnout was a testament to the affinity for animated films among Nigerian youths. Many Nigerian animators attended this event.
The festival comes on the heels of 2 animated film workshops that were organized as part of the Franco-German Cultural fund. It is also a key component of the French Institute’s cultural strategy oriented toward animated cinema.
The success of the event was proof of the French Institute’s growing influence in Abuja’s cultural landscape.
