The Ambassador Visits Maiduguri, Borno State
On Tuesday the 23rd and Wednesday the 24th of July 2019, the Ambassador of France in Nigeria, Jérôme Pasquier, visited Maiduguri where he met with the state governor, heads of NGOs supported by France locally and their project beneficiaries.
In the internally displaced persons Stadium camp and the Bolori II community, the Ambassador met with project beneficiaries and heads of NGOs that France has been supporting in their aid efforts since 2015.
The United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross - also supported locally by France - welcomed him to their operational facilities and spoke to him about the difficulties being faced by the different development and humanitarian aid actors in the region. The Ambassador and the governor also discussed these same issues. The Ambassador restated the France’s support in the fight against terrorism.
Finally, the Ambassador seized the opportunity to visit the centres of Alliance Française within the University of Maiduguri and the State Ministry of Education, where he reiterated France’s support for the development and promotion of the French language in the state which happens to border more than one francophone country.
