Minister Ségolène Royal visits Abuja
The president of the COP21 and French Minister for Environment, Energy and Maritime Affairs, in charge of international relations on climate change, Mrs Ségolène Royal, has ended an African tour with an important visit in Abuja on the 15th of March 2016.
She was received by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and held discussions with the Federal Minister for Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed, and the Federal Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola.
As president of the COP, Mrs Royal thanked Nigeria for its active participation in the Paris Conference.
She also underlined the importance of the first step in the implementation of the Paris Agreement (the signature on April 22nd in New York) and committed herself in mobilizing the funds promised to Africa at the COP21 and in the African Initiative for Renewable Energy.
Mrs Royal raised different issues, all considered as priorities by the Nigerian authorities: the access of Africa to renewable energy, the drying-up of Lake Chad, the Great Green Wall, the link between climate change and security.
