African International Film Festival: 7th edition
The Nollywood elite gathered on Tuesday, October 3, to attend the opening night of the 7th African International Film Festival (AFRIFF), which will be held in Lagos from October 29 to November 4, 2017. It was an opportunity to announce a new partnership between the French Embassy and AFRIFF - two days devoted to French cinema.
The French Consul, Laurent Polonceaux, launched the 7th edition of the festival alongside Chioma Ude, President of AFRIFF.
In his address to the representatives of Nollywood and the media, he expressed his commitment to strengthening the ties between France and Nigeria in the field of cinema, before expanding on the partnership established between the French Embassy and the Festival.
As it happens, Ms. Ude made the decision this year to open the festival to francophone productions.
In order to support this initiative, the French Embassy will propose a line-up of five recent French films on the 2nd and 3rd of November. Each screening will be followed by a questions and answer session with a representative of the film.
High-level professional meetings and specialized master classes will also be organized. This will be an opportunity to compare the French and Nigerian experiences in the areas of production, financing and distribution.
This partnership will help to strengthen the relationship between two major film nations.
The growing prominence of AFRIFF presents a major opportunity to showcase French cinema. On one hand, projections and media coverage will bring the French film industry exposure before a wide and largely informed audience. On the other hand, the exchanges that will take place along with the various professional meetings scheduled for these two days will help create opportunities that will benefit local filmmakers.
The list of the 5 films that will be presented:
Valérian, Luc Besson
Step by step, Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir
Borders, Apolline Traoré
Wulu, Daouda Coulibaly
