North-East - Humanitarian aid and peacebuilding

Humanitarian aid is not only limited to health, water or food distribution. By supporting International Alert, France is also working to strengthen human resilience and peacebuilding process in the North-East.

While unrest is persisting in the North-East of Nigeria, some actors are working on a return to dialogue, reintegration of the most vulnerable in their communities and peacebuilding. After so many years of troubles, International Alert is one of the actors leading this kind of initiative in Borno State.

Both crucial and complementary in supporting a sustainable humanitarian response, the International Alert initiative has to be encouraged. France has therefore decided to support a cofounded project (with UNICEF and the British Government). This programm has just started in Borno State and should last until December 2018.

The activities should target IDPs and host communities in Maiduguri but also in other localities (Bama, Dikwa, Damboa). More than 50 000 persons will benefit from International Alert support: community and religious leaders, affected families, isolated women and children. A single watchword: rebuild the future with dialogue.
