Global Climate Change Alliance Plus - Abuja, October 18, 2018

ECOWAS, in partnership with the CILSS and Expertise France, launches the “Global Climate Change Alliance Plus” (GCCA+ / 2018-2022, 12.1 M€) regional project to support the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement in West Africa

This project aims to contribute to the West African regional effort for the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, in particular via capacity building for West African regional institutions. The implementation is planned to last 4 years, from 2018 to 2022, and will focus on the following areas:

  • (i) The operational implementation by countries of their commitments made during the Paris Agreement, by translating them into their public policies and sectoral intervention strategies,
  • (ii) Capacity building for the negotiators of the regional delegations in the context of the annual negotiations of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change,
  • (iii) The facilitation of access to climate finance, such as the Green Fund, by building the project engineering capacities of institutional and private actors with the capacity to take on large-scale projects for the region,
  • (iv) An increase in the provision of diploma-based training on climate change in the region and, at the same time, the development of more extensive e-learning tools,
  • (v) The financing of pilot adaptation projects in the sector of rural development and resilient agriculture by launching a call for projects,
  • (vi) The promotion of other actions which will be defined during the project depending on the needs expressed by the project stakeholders and beneficiaries.
