Fighting torture in Nigeria
On the 23rd of May 2016, the Ambassador of France signed an agreement with Avocats sans frontières - France (ASFF) for the funding of a project on judicial assistance to victims of torture in Nigeria.
Strongly committed to the fight against torture and inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment, France is glad to support ASFF for this project which is a continuation of a 3-years program contributing to building the capacities of judicial actors and at protecting the Nigerian citizens against violations of their rights.
Called ProCAT 2016, ASFF’s project, which receives a French contribution of 8.000 €, aims at raising awareness of police forces on the respect of interrogated people, at providing a legal assistance to victims of ill-treatment and at promoting the principles of the UN Convention Against Torture, particularly in the State of Enugu (South-East).
