FLOODS - French emergency assistance.
The Ambassador of France to Nigeria Jacques CHAMPAGNE DE LABRIOLLE signed, on Tuesday, October 30th, 2012, an agreement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies – IFRC - and the Nigerian Red Cross Society -NRCS. The signatories were, for IFRC, Mr Daniel SAYI, regional representative of the organization and, for the NRCS, Mr Bello Hammam DIRAM, Secretary General.
By providing a donation of 50,000 €, this agreement marks the support of France to the victims of the floods that occurred in Nigeria in recent weeks and which resulted in the loss of human lives, of crops and in the destruction of several infrastructures. By doing so, France intends to support the national effort both to relieve people’s distress and to help them return to a normal life as soon as possible.
French donation should be mainly used in the most affected areas in the country, such as the states of Kogi, Edo and Anambra.
By signing this agreement with the two organizations above, France shows its confidence in the effectiveness of its partners for bringing fast, efficient and equitable assistance to the populations. The agreement stipulates that regular reporting on the use of the funds will be provided.
