A breakfast-debate to celebrate World Water Day

The Embassy of France in Nigeria and the Institut Français du Nigeria were pleased to organize a breakfast debate on 5th of April 2019, in collaboration with Solidarités International, the Agence Française de Développement and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to commemorate World Water Day.

It was the opportunity to advocate for universal access to water, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development. Thus, the event first focused on presenting the different programs implemented by our guests, then in a 2nd session, on highlighting the challenges humanitarian and development actors are facing regarding water supply and sanitation. This brought together representatives from the civil society and both local and international institutions with the aim of providing a forum for the participants to exchange best practices and strengthen their partnerships.

Among the themes mentioned during this debate were security and socio-cultural issues of the emergency response and the sanitary issues raised by the lack of access to clean water. The various participants agreed on the importance of the role of youth in ensuring sustainable access to water and the need to adapt the response, whether in the humanitarian or development sector, to beneficiary communities of the projects.
The event was attended by about 50 people.
